The Urban Seed

A 26-year-old named John Hofmann came up with the concept of “Urban Seed.” He thought this idea could be a good way to promote local gardens in the area, and that if all of them promoted the same “brand,” more volunteers could be reached (similar to the way musicians use SoundCloud to reach their listening audience). The local Chamber of Commerce and a variety of community organizations backed John’s idea. John was introduced to an amazing group of community volunteers at an open meeting, including Master Gardeners, Landscapers, and Eastpointe residents, who are all working together to start the city’s first urban garden. In 2012, the Eastpointe Community Garden became the project’s first urban garden.
